Phobia is the Greek word for fear. It is a strong avoidance of something found to be unpleasant in the environment.
A few examples are:-
- Heights – Acrophobia or enclosed small spaces – Claustrophobia
- Driving or driving test nerves
- Injections, blood or Dentists
- Spiders or other insects or animals
- Public speaking
- Flying – aerophobia or aviophobia
- Fear of being sick – Emetophobia
- Fear of giving birth – Tokophobia
These are not necessarily ‘rational’ fears. Phobias are usually the result of a one time learning experience. This alone is powerful proof that our brain learns associations very quickly.
Childhood fears are usually short lived, but adult fears are normally permanent as they are stored in the subconscious mind. There are powerful techniques that can be used to eliminate and cure these strong negative feelings.
People often mistakenly believe that this process has to be long and tedious, but with hypnosis and NLP at Cheshire Hypnotherapy in Altrincham this is not usually the case. Hypnotherapy can help you to learn a new pattern of behavior.
Many people have already used hypnosis to not only overcome fear of flying, but have also learnt to look forward to flying and to enjoy it!
